Dinner Table Discussion and Nurse MamaBloo

So, I have to say that our dinner table discussions well…. sometimes it digresses….

Last night, out of the total blue, Izzy’s pointer finger on her left hand started to hurt.  Burn, actually.  Our first line of attack was to have her put it in her milk.  But that seemed to actually make it worse.  THEN, I suggested that her finger tip was sore from learning guitar.  “NO!” she exclaimed, “IT IS NOT THAT KIND OF PAIN…!”

Izzy and Her Sore Finger

My problem is that I am much better at making fun of “sick” and “injured” people than nursing them back to health.  I know, I know… it is not a very flattering quality, but somehow the levity gets me through.  I remember one time (before kids) that Dave and I went to the ER because he stepped on a nail.  We were WAY back in line due to the minor-ness of his injury.  So, in order to pass the time, we decided to give everyone a “DRAMA GRADE”  in the waiting room…. oh, we can still get to laughing today about the woman with the towel over her face and head whose reluctant and slightly disheveled roommate was wheeling her in on a wheel chair due to her headache.  “I just found her like this,” he said.  It was clear that they were really JUST roommates and not friends and he would rather be having a root canal than dealing with this.  Grade: A+

Disclaimer: Hey, before you judge me… I get bad headaches.  I know they can be serious.  I also would never make fun of something “really” serious. Later on we caught up to this patient in the “minor injuries room” and she was fine… so, no real worries.

Anyway, back to Izzy.

Maybe you burned it!” suggests older sister Jade.  Only a glare in return.

“Maybe you accidentally bit it!” says younger sister Lily.  The eye-roll is her only response.

Maybe there is some microscopic animal burrowing its way into the finger on your left hand!”  I offer.

She stops.  Looks at me.  And whimpers, “WE WERE PLAYING with microscopic shrimp today in science!”

A ha..!”  Me thinks we have found the answer we were looking for.  Although, I have to admit the visual of kids playing with microscopic shrimp leaves something to be desired.  Do they fetch?  Do tricks?  Do the kids juggle them? Can you even see them? How does one play with these things?  hmmm…

The other thing about me is I L.O.V.E. to send emails to the kids’ teachers.

This one read: “Dear Peggy, Izzy wants to know if it is possible for the microscopic shrimp  you were working with today to BURROW in to her left pointer finger and make it hurt.  This was our dinner table discussion and the best possible answer we could come up with as to why her finger hurts.  What do you think?

The moment I hit SEND (yes, of course I sent it…) her finger miraculously recovered.  See…. nursed her back to health MY WAY.  Problem solved.

Jackson just walked by and said hey that is Izzy what’s going on. I gave him the Reader’s Digest version that her finger was hurting at dinner and you where deciding what it was. He said, “Oh yeah that happened to me and my finger felt like it had needles in it and it wasn’t even asleep!!” I will have him check for microscopic shipment next time. I love it!!

I love it! We spent the day with my MIL yesterday and the email letting me know there was a new post came into my phone on the way to her house. I was bored in the car so I read it right then.

My MIL is a nurse and after working 12 hour shifts taking care of other people, she is not at all interested in taking care of her family and often makes light of things. When I stared reading, it reminded me so much of her and we all got a really great laugh when I read it to my husband as he was driving.

It is too funny that you came up with something burrowing into her finger the very evening they were studying microscopic shrimp at school! How awesome was that?!

Anyway, thanks for the laugh and I am glad her finger stopped hurting.

CA — isn’t that a riot. I cannot believe I even came up with that suggestion AND it was the day they worked with shrimp? I am glad you got a laugh out of it, too!! :-)
