MamaBloo Book Review: On The Night You Were Born

On the night you were born
the moon smiled with such wonder
that the stars peeking in to see you
and the night wind whispered,
“Life will never be the same.”

I first heard this book when it was read aloud by a good friend at her one year old’s dedication.  I then went out and got the book to give to Emme.

This is a book of power and majesty.  The author tells the story of what happens on the night “you” were born.  All of creation stops and takes notice as the child in the story is told again and again how unique, perfect, wonderful and loved he is.  It is one that sinks deep into a mother’s heart, and still remains relevant to the child — it doesn’t go above a child’s head, but instead simply reveals each child’s profound place in the world.  And, of course, to mom and dad, that child IS the whole world.

So whenver you doubt just how special you are
and you wonder who loves you, how much and how far,
listen for geese honking high in the sky.
(They’re singing a song to remember you by.)

This book is a poignant reminder that God’s creation is, indeed, for each of us.  And each time a new “you” comes into the world, there is reason to celebrate.   This book would make a beautiful gift for any mom and it is a wonderful addition to a child’s library.  Its message of love is too special to pass up.

Oh my goodness, Kari. This post so brought back tears to my eyes this morning. We gave this book to my 17 year old niece, Meghan, and her beautiful baby girl, Emma, for Christmas. When Meghan read it with all the family around her and her baby on Christmas, she just cried and cried. Meghan had Emma in November at the age of 17. You can imagine the emotions of such a young girl having to grow up so fast. And the heartache her parents have gone through watching their own baby girl give birth at such a young age. (BTW, my brother and his wife are the absolute best grandparents and are a fantastic support system for Meghan and Emma.)This young lady has, from the beginning, been a natural at motherhood. And Emma has changed ALL of our lives in such a wonderful way, as babies magically can do. When I found this book I just couldn’t resist getting it for them. It was such an eloquent reminder of just how much they are loved and just how the world’s arms are open and waiting to embrace them both.
