MamaBloo wants to know: One thing!?

§ January 19th, 2010 § Filed under Questions for my readers § Tagged § 11 Comments

Okay, take air and shelter out of this equation — I will also not judge you if you don’t  say kids, or husband, or wife, or mom, or Jesus. But here is the question today:   What ONE THING do you need to “make it” each day?  What do YOU need to feel like yourself?  Please post a comment and let me know.

For me, it is hands down SLEEP.  Am I cop-out on that one?  Okay, how about this one then… a SHOWER.  You may not know it to look at me, but I need a shower each day.  I can wait if I have to.  I can take my shower at night if the morning just gets away from me.  But standing in that boiling hot water washes away all the crud… USUALLY no one comes to talk to me in the shower…. I can think, pray,  and sometimes cry (if I need to) in the shower.  Sometimes I take two… sometimes three… yup… three in one day.  I love them THAT much.

Beyond that I should probably be totally honest and say a HAIR BAND.

How about you?

That shower is really dear to me as well and I almost picked that but edging it out was “time”. Just 15 minutes for me and me alone. Nobody calling for mom, or honey or even the dog looking at me with those big soulful eyes and tail wagging. Absolutely nobody wanting a piece of me for just 15 minutes. I’d take more if given, but 15 minutes is good. Real good.

For me…sleep for certian! I am horrible without it..like a raving lunatic! Maybe not on the outside but definitely on the inside. And I must group two other things in there..just some quiet time..by myself. Even if it is five minutes!..and coffee in the morning! Really that is it! And usually my quiet time is in the shower. That’s if there aren’t two other children banging on the door!

Wow! I can totally relate. Especially to the hair band, though. :) My husband really loves my hair long and I figure, he’s the one that has to look at me all day, right? So, I leave it long — for him. I can even go a day or two without much sleep but, I HAVE TO have a hair band to keep it from making me crazy all day.

Two all my own, though (not stealing one of yours), would had to be my fizzy slippers and my teeth. I work from home and I am fairly certain that the laws of physics do not apply to the area under my desk where my feet sit. It is 10 degrees colder there than anywhere else in the house. I can’t concentrate and can’t “create” if my feet are cold, so my fuzzy slippers keep me trucking along all day. Oh, and I have to have my teeth brushed. I can’t stand the fuzzy-teeth-bad-breath-yuck feeling.

So many hearthbreaking thinging going on in the world or just next door so—Laughter! I work in a middle school so its not too hard; sometimes I just go stand in the hallway and watch 8th grade girls group walk, giggle, hug and squeal. Or I can think of Emme getting from standing to sitting doing the most incredible yoga move, or I just laugh at the many crazy things I say or do, or I watch The Big Bang Theory or Modern family. Yes laughter.

Resonating with two out of your three, Kari. I can do without the hairband, I think.
But I’m going to have to say SILENCE. It doesn’t have to be alone, but it’s usually easier that way. My world is full of words and sound. Most of the time, I love it. But without spaces, wordsruntogetherandbegintoblurandlosemeaning.Soit’sdefinitely

  • I have to be able to remember my son William’s beautiful, radiant smile & hear in my mind and the echos of his laughter in the depths if my heart to keep my sanity…without being able to remember him I would lose it so badly – Can’t type much due to my right hand being in a cast…but that’s my MUST HAVE everyday…Here is why…

You nailed it with sleep. I LOVE, adore, cherish, and crave my sleep more than air to breathe. I am a grumpy lunatic with out sleep. My time of all-nighters passed about 15 years ago (and I’m only 35!!). I cannot function rationally without sleep. The number one reason that I am done having kids (we have 2) is because I need more sleep than newborns allow! That’s it, plain and simple! On the other hand I thrive after a great night’s sleep and nothing can stand in my way. I am a determined and kind human being when I am well-rested :)

I need a shower and sleep too. I think I need kisses from my kids too. That really helps a lot!!

  • Laughter and my eyelash curler…. :)
